I also have tested (2) HW180 boxes and encountered the same issues, but see "Other thoughts" section for specifics. All 5 will lock to certain stations with ease, but the HW150 has trouble with the same ones. They all have different combination tuner/demodulator chipsets. Have tested it side-by-side with 2 integrated TVs (internal tuner/demodulator) and 2 ATSC set top receivers, and one USB stick receiver using the same antenna (outdoor 30-ft mast mounted with pre-amp). Very sensitive to signal level variations-has unusual reaction to combination of input level (in dBm) and tuner/demodulator signal-to-noise ratio: will lock to high S/N and low input combo AND to low S/N and high input level combo, but in between is sketchy. HDMI jack will output up to 1080p/60 Hz! Calling this device a "Converter Box" is somewhat misleading as it is a fully functional HDTV receiver: it outputs HD (via HDMI and component) and SD and downconverts HD for SD output on the composite jacks.Ĭons: Inconsistent reception quality: sometimes locks to stored channel when tuning, other times not.
